Monday 21st May 2012

  • Skehard Road Roundabout work is due to commence on Monday on the realignment of the roundabout at Skehard Road, delays can be expected during the works. Construction time is approximately 5 months signposting will be in place advertising the works (Jon’s Civil Engineering Ltd).
  • Possible delays on Monahan’s Road from 9.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday for Slit Trench works (ESB).
  • Possible delays on Centre Park Road from 9.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday for Slit Trench works (ESB).
  • Possible delays on Cross Douglas Road Monday Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 7.30pm to 11.00pm (KNN).
  • Possible delays on Glen Avenue from 9.30am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday (BAM).
  • Possible delays on Mallow Road from 9.30am to 4.00pm and from 7.30pm to 11.00pm Monday Tuesday and Wednesday for road crossing (KNN).
  • Emmett Place will be closed from 7.00pm to 7.00am for crane works.
  • Mahon Point the Traffic Signals at Mahon Point will be turned off from 9.00pm to 5.00am Monday and Tuesday night to facilitate Head change (PEEK).

Tuesday 22nd May 2012

  • Possible delays on South City Link Road Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.00am to 11.30am for Grass cutting (Parks Dept C.C.C.).

Wednesday 23rd May 2012

  • Blarney Street will be closed from 7.30pm to 11.00pm for water repairs.

On Going Works

  • Grenville Place & Bachelor’s Quay access only in place, due to quay wall works (Cork City Council).
  • Quay Wall works on Sullivans Quay and Fr Mathew Quay.
  • Gas Works lane closed due to falling masonry from gable end of building (Building Inspectors Office, Cork City Council).


New lower speed limit of 30 kph

The Cork City Road Traffic (Special Speed Limits at Specified Schools) Bye Laws 2011 introduce a new lower speed limit of 30 kph on the approaches to the following schools:

  • Sunday’s Well Boys Primary School , Blarney Road.
  • Scoil Barra Naofa Boys and Girls Primary Schools, Beaumont.
  • St Brendan’s and St Mark’s Primary Schools, The Glen.
  • North Monastery Secondary School.
  • Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh, Bishopstown.
  • Nagle Community College, Mahon.

The Bye-laws will come into effect on Wednesday 22nd February. Motorists are asked to observe the lower speed limits in these areas.

Jack Lynch Tunnel Notices

Temporary Maintenance Closure 27th - 29th March 2012

  1. Notice is hereby given that a section of  the South Ring Road (N25) between Dunkettle Interchange and Mahon Interchange, including the Jack Lynch Tunnel & Tunnel Management Building / Little Island access road will be closed to normal traffic overnight for three successive nights as follows:

    20:00 hrs on Tuesday 27th March 2012 until 07:00 hrs on Wednesday 28th March 2012
    20:00 hrs on Wednesday 28th March 2012 until 07:00 hrs on Thursday 29th March 2012
    20:00hrs on Thursday 29th March 2012 until 07:00 hrs on Friday 30th March 2012
  2. These closures are necessary to facilitate scheduled routine maintenance on the tunnel and its equipment. Cork City Council regrets any inconvenience that may occur.

    In between these overnight closures period i.e. during the day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the N25 including the Tunnel and its approach roads will be open to traffic as normal.
  3.  Alternative traffic routes are available via the city centre during the periods of closure as follows:

    On the North side of the river, Southbound traffic should travel from the Dunkettle Interchange to the City Centre via the Tivoli dual carriageway and Lower Glanmire Road (N8), and then follow signs for the South Ring (N25) via the South City Link Road (N27).

    On the Southern approaches to the Tunnel, Northbound traffic should travel via the  Kinsale Road Roundabout to the City Centre via the South City Link Road (N27), and then follow signs for Dublin (N8) and Waterford (N25) via Lower Glanmire Road.

Public Notice

Temporary Closures for essential upgrade works in accordance with the EU Directive on Road Tunnels 14th January to the 13th July 2012

1. Notice is hereby given that a section of  the South Ring Road (N25) between Dunkettle Interchange and Mahon Interchange, including the Jack Lynch Tunnel & Tunnel Management Building / Little Island access road will be closed to normal traffic overnight during the following  period 14th January 2012 - 29th June 2012 as follows:

  • 21:30 hrs Saturday until 07:00 hrs Sunday
  • 21:30 hrs Sunday until 07:00 hrs Monday
  • 21:30 hrs Monday until 07:00 hrs Tuesday
  • 21:30 hrs Tuesday until 07:00 hrs Wednesday
  • 21:30 hrs Wednesday until 07:00 hrs Thursday
  • 21:30 hrs Thursday until 07:00 hrs Friday

Friday overnight OPEN

2. These closures are necessary to facilitate essential upgrade works in accordance  with  the EU Directive 2004/54/EC on the minimum safety requirement for tunnels in the trans-European road network. Cork City Council regrets any inconvenience that may occur.

In between the overnight closures period the N25 including the Tunnel and its approach roads will be open to traffic as normal. No closures are planned overnight on Friday

3. Alternative traffic routes are available via the City Centre during the period of closures as follows:

Persons wishing to object to this Temporary Road Closure should submit their objection in an envelope clearly marked “Temporary Road Closure – Jack Lynch Tunnel Upgrade Works” to Director of Services, Roads & Transportation Directorate, City Hall, Cork not later than 4.00pm on 30th December 2011.
