SoundPortraits sets as its goal the accumulation of a body of portraits of ordinary people living in Ireland, an almost anthropological survey of “who we are” as a nation. Evelyn Grant (RTE lyric fm) and Gerry Kelly present a concert for all the family. An opportunity for the musically curious to get close-up to magical instruments and sounds as the Cork City Quartet scrape, bang and blow some great tunes in Cork’s Millennium Hall, City Hall.

The Gate Cinema, North Main Street at 7pm and 8pm Golden Globe nominated film composer Maurice Seezer and acclaimed singer Tony O’Sullivan re-interpret songs from the cinema in an eclectic and entertaining programme ranging from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to ‘Midnight Express’ to ‘Basquiat’ to ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’! This event is free but ticketed. Tickets are available on a first come first served basis at The Gate box office from 5pm on Culture Night.

This year we celebrate the wonderful art and architecture of some of our city’s churches. With talks from experts on the various features of interest in these churches this series aims to reveal the wonder of these familiar edifices and interiors.

Just for Culture Night the Lee Sessions presents a packed series of traditional, vibrant and authentic trad sessions in Cork city centre, featuring masters of traditional music. From 6pm you will find music in The Rob Roy, The Gables, Charlies, Cavanagh’s and The Thomond Bar. From 7pm in Le Chateau Bar and Sin É. From 9pm in The Long Valley and from 10pm in The Corner House. All session are two hours in duration.
