Cork Artists’ Collective is the longest running artist-led initiative in the country with nearly 100 artists having passed though its doors since 1985. Currently there are 10 artists who collectively and individually initiate innovative projects like Sonic Vigil, the Lightbox shows in Tom Barry’s as well as exchanges and forums in their GuestHouse Space in Shandon. Come join us to view the artist’s studios and a lecture on the Histories of the Collective.

With projects such as CIT, Cork Opera House and the restoration of Blackrock Castle, Murray O Laoire Architects have a stong presence in Cork. They are opening their doors and members of the public can view their office (a converted 19th century building) along with the display of architectural models, slideshow presentations and a number of interesting films made about their recent work.

The central courtyard of the Cork Centre for Architectural Education will be animated by a series of projections – colour, space, light, form, materiality - in both still and moving images. Over the course of the evening these projections will articulate a series of architectural themes.

Crawford College of Art & Design present the work by 2009 Fine Art graduates Elizabeth O’Callaghan and Aoife O’Brien opening at 6 pm.

The Guesthouse will host an exhibition featuring works from the Cork Artists Collective. The entire Guesthouse will be used to showcase video, sound, sculpture, painting and photography. The artists will be there to chat with visitors, tea, coffee and refreshments will be available.

An exhibition titled Paw Marks by Mark Flynn winner of the National Sculpture Factory’s Graduate of the Year Award for 2008 will open at 7.30 pm. It is a culmination of the work created on his 6-month residency and is a series of ‘props’ for a mythical film where the central character strives to define the role in which he has been cast, centred around a large sculptural monolith which catalyses the main protagonist into action.

Exhibition of new work by Outlaw Studios artists in the central exhibition area. Outlaw Studios has reclaimed, revitalized and bought light back to the old Ford factory in Marina Park. It shares the space with Dowtcha Puppets and Dolliver Design and is a creative hub for this historic area.

Visit the meeting house and view an exhibition of 350 years of Quakers in Cork. This includes the library, whose books give a great insight into the heritage of the Quakers. Walk the burial ground, inspired by The Garden of Eden Project planted with fruit and nut trees.

The Black Mariah presents Unconscious, Mark O’Kelly’s work which explicitly references mediated experiences and signifiers as opposed to the actual signified cultural or political context of the sources. His work is engaged in analysis of the experience of seeing, re-seeing, adopting and engaging with representations of culture.
